25 quotes on UFOs by Presidents, Astronauts, and Scientists (and others)

By Jack Brummet

  • UFOs: The reliable cases are uninteresting and in the interesting cases are unreliable. — Carl Sagan, Other Worlds, 1975.
  •  I believe that these extraterrestrial vehicles and their crews are visiting this planet from other planets which obviously are a little more … advanced than we are… — Astronaut L. Gordon Cooper, Mercury 7, letter to the United Nations, 1978.
  • I can assure you that, given they exist, these flying saucers are made by no power on this Earth. — President Harry S. Truman, 4 April 1950, at a press conference.
  • I have argued flying saucers with lots of people. I was interested in possible. They do not appreciate that the problem is not to demonstrate whether it's possible or not but whether it's going on or not. — Richard Feynman
  • [The Airship] looked like a great black cigar with a fishlike tail….The body was at least 100 feet long and attached to it was a triangular tail, one apex being attached to the main body. The surface of the airship looked as if it were made of aluminum, which exposure to wind and weather had turned dark….The airship went at tremendous speed. As it neared Lorin it turned quickly and disappeared in the direction of San Francisco. At half past 8 we saw it again, when it took about the same direction and disappeared. — Case Gilson, reported in the Oakland Tribune, Dec 1, 1896.
  • It was the darndest thing I've ever seen. It was big, it was very bright, it changed colors and it was about the size of the Moon. We watched it for ten minutes, but none of us could figure out what it was. One thing's for sure, I'll never make fun of people who say they've seen unidentified objects in the sky.
  • If I become President, I'll make every piece of information this country has about UFO sightings available to the public and the scientists — President Jimmy Carter

  • I am completely convinced that [UFOs] have an out-of-world basis.  — Dr. Walther Riedel, LIFE Magazine, 7 April 1952. Research director and chief designer at Germany's rocket center in Peenemunde. He also worked on classified projects for the U.S. after WWII.
  • After I give lectures — on almost any subject — I am often asked, "Do you believe in UFOs?". I'm always struck by how the question is phrased, the suggestion that this is a matter of belief and not evidence. I'm almost never asked, "How good is the evidence that UFOs are alien spaceships?" — Carl Sagan, The Demon Haunted World, 1995.
  • For reasons of national security and out of consideration for some people still alive I have omitted certain material. Some of this material cannot be made available for many years, perhaps for many generations. — Preface to the Memoirs of Harry S Truman, 1946-52 Vol II: Years of Trial and Hope.
  • Of course the flying saucers are real and they are interplanetary… . The cumulative evidence for the existence of UFOs is quite overwhelming and I accept the fact of their existence. — Air Chief Marshal Lord Dowding, RAF, August 1954.
  • I believe that these extraterrestrial vehicles and their crews are visiting this planet from other planets--which obviously are a little more technically advanced than we are here on earth. —   Astronaut L. Gordon Cooper,  Mercury 7
  • We all know that UFOs are real. All we need to ask is where do they come from. —   Astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell, after his Apollo 14 Moon flight in 1971.
  • Flying saucers are real. Too many good men have seen them, that don't have hallucinations. —   Captain Edward 'Eddie' Rickenbacker

  • I've been asked [about UFOs] and I've said publicly I thought they were somebody else, some other civilization. —   Astronaut Eugene Cernan, Apollo 17, in the Los Angeles Times, 1973.
  • I've been convinced for a long time that the flying saucers are real and interplanetary. In other words we are being watched by beings from outer space. —   Albert M. Chop, deputy public relations director at NASA
  • I think that it is much more likely that the reports of flying saucers are the results of the known irrational characteristics of terrestrial intelligence than of the unknown rational efforts of extra-terrestrial intelligence. — Richard Feynman
  • Our journeys to the stars will be made on spaceships created by determined, hardworking scientists and engineers applying the principles of science, not aboard flying saucers piloted by little gray aliens from some other dimension. — Robert A. Baker, 'The Aliens Among Us: Hypnotic Regression Revisited.
  • Until they come to see us from their planet, I wait patiently. I hear them saying: Don't call us, we'll call you. — Marlene Dietrich, Venus, 1962.
  • A circle of fire coming in the sky, noiseless, one rod long with its body and one rod wide. After some days these things became more numerous, shining more than the brightness of the sun. — From a series of Egyptian hieroglyphs on a papyrus dated to the reign of Thutmose III (1504-1450 BC)
  • It is my thesis that flying saucers are real, and that they are space ships from another solar system. I think that they possibly are manned by intelligent observers who are members of a race that may have been investigating our earth for centuries. — Hermann Oberth, 'Flying Saucers Come from a Distant World,' in The American Weekly,  October 24, 1954.

  • UFOs are as real as the airplanes that fly over your head… . I'm so concerned about what the consequences might be of starting an intergalactic war, that I just think I had to say something… . The secrecy involved in all matters pertaining to the Roswell incident was unparalleled. The classification was, from the outset, above top secret, so the vast majority of U.S. officials and politicians, let alone a mere allied minister of defence, were never in-the-loop. — Paul Hellyer, Canada — s Defence Minister from 1963-67, speech at the University of Toronto, September 25, 2005.
  • The phenomenon of UFOs does exist, and it must be treated seriously. — Mikhail Gorbachev, 'Soviet Youth,'  May 4, 1990.
  • As far as I know, an alien spacecraft did not crash in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947… . If the United States Air Force did recover alien bodies, they didn't tell me about it either, and I want to know. — President Bill Clinton, reply to a letter from a child asking about the Roswell Incident

Ramtha, via J.Z. Knight, comes out in support of President Trump

By Mona Goldwater, Paranormal Ed.

Who, quietly in December, and now very publicly, has come out in support of President Trump? None other than Yelm, Washington's 35,000-year-old warrior Ramtha (via his channeler J.Z. Knight).

Ramtha predicts that the 45th President will receive a honor guard of UFOs while flying in his jet: "The first time he looks out the window … when he sees two silver disks as escort, he is going to know it all — and this is a man who is not afraid — he is going to know it all.' "

Alien Lore No. 247 - The most popular file in the FBI's digital Vault is a memo about the Roswell UFO crash

By Jack Brummet, Alien Lore Ed.

The FBI recently opened a digital reading room--The Vault--with thousands of documents on their most famous cases (you know, Bonnie and Clyde, John Dillinger, The Unabomber, the 9/11 conspirators, et cetera). The most downloaded document (by far)?  A 1950 memo about a UFO sighting.

The memo to J. Edgar Hoover is from from Guy Hottel, the special agent in charge of the Washington, D.C. field office.

The informant, whose whose name is redacted, said that saucers had been found in New Mexico because the Government has a very high-powered radar set-up in that area that is believed to interfere with the guidance systems of the saucers.

The town of Roswell in New Mexico became infamous after reports that a flying saucer crashed in the desert near a military base there on or around July 2, 1947. The bodies of aliens were said to have been recovered and autopsied by the U.S. military.  American authorities allegedly covered the incident up.  We won't go into a lot of detail here, since this is one of the most well-documented UFO stories of all time.

Alien Lore No. 245 - Russell Crowe spots, and photographs, a UFO

By Jack Brummet, Alien Lore Ed.

Russell Crowe says he recently caught a UFO on camera. The actor told Perth Now that he saw, and photographed, several flying objects whizzing over Sydney's Royal Botanic Gardens earlier this week. He uploaded a video to YouTube (see below).

"A friend and I set camera to capture fruit bats rising from Botanic Gardens. This was a big surprise,'' Crowe wrote on Twitter.  He said that he was about 800 feet from the gardens when he shot the footage.

The short clip titled "UFO? Time Lapse Photos Outside RC's Woolloomooloo Office (THESE ARE REAL)" shows a number of oddly-shaped lights over the Botanic Gardens.

Asked on Twitter if the lights may have been lens flares or other natural phenomenon, Crowe said "Canon 5D, no flash, can't be lens flare because it moves, camera is fixed."

Several other film stars, celebrities and politicians have also reported seeing UFOs; President Jimmy Carter was said to have seen a UFO, as have Nation of Islam founder Louis Farrakhan, Congressman Dennis Kucinich, John Lennon, and Jackie Gleason famously reported seeing alien bodies at a secret U.S. Government facility.

ATIT Reheated (from five years ago today): Kucinich questions Pres. Bush's mental health (and admits he's "seen a flying saucer")

Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich questioned President Bush's mental health yesterday because of comments he made about a nuclear Iran causing World War III.

"...we have to start asking questions about his mental health," Kucinich, an Ohio congressman, said in an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer's editorial board on Tuesday. "There's something wrong. He does not seem to understand his words have real impact."

Later that night, during the Democratic Presidential debate, Representative Kucinich admitted he had seen a UFO (see yesterday's All This Is That).

Alien Lore No. 231 - Senator Bobby Kennedy on aliens and UFOs

By Jack Brummet, Alien Lore Editor

A letter from Senator Robert Kennedy has just sold on eBay.  It was a typed letter, written to Anne Epple of NYC, on a question she asked about UFOs.  The September 10, 1966 letter sold for  $220.  The Epple letter is the second known letter written by Robert Kennedy on the UFOs/ETs.

Dear Mrs. Epple,
Thank you for your thoughtful letter on "unidentified flying objects".
Many reputable scientists also believe that there must be other beings in the universe. Dr. Harlow Shapley, for one, has stated that there is a high probability that there is other life in the universe. To believe that there is other life in the universe is not, however, to believe that "UFO's" are manned vehicles. One explanation of this phenomenon, in addition to those you mentioned, connects the lights that are seen with the gaseous tails of comets. A careful analysis of sighting to date has not given us any indication that "UFO's" are manned.
I appreciate hearing from you on this matter and look forward to hearing from you again.
Sincerely,
(Signature)
Robert F. Kennedy

The letter is similar to another letter written on May 9, 1968 from Senator Kennedy to Gray Barker. Barker was the publisher of Saucer News.  In the Gray letter, Kennedy writes about his interest in UFOs. He writes: “I am a card carrying member of the Amalgamated Flying Saucers Association. Therefore, like many other people in our country I am interested in the phenomenon of flying saucers.”

The excellent TV series Dark Skies (1996-97) had several plot points around the Kennedy brothers, and posited early in the series that JFK was killed because he became aware of a government cover-up of aliens and UFOs by the Majestic 12 organization.  In Dark Skies, Bobby Kennedy was a sworn enemy of Majestic 12 and believed people "deserve to know the truth."  In one episode Frank Bach, the head of Majestic, told the rogue agent John Loengard that "Bobby Kennedy will never become President."

Alien Lore No. 202 - Dolan & Zabel on UFO Disclosure: "There is going to be blowback beyond belief:"

By Jack Brummet Alien Lore and Unexplained Phenomena Editor

"A.D. After Disclosure: The People's Guide to Life After Contact" is a new book about what happens after the powers-that-be acknowledge ET/UFO reality after sixty years of concealing and obscuring the truth.

The book is written by Richard Dolan and Bryce Zabel.  A.D. is a work of "speculative non-fiction," published by Keyhole Publishing.  In the video clip below, Dolan and Zabel discuss many of the concepts they touch on in their book.  Zabel was also a creator of the prescient show Dark Skies that we have written about on All This Is That numerous times.

This is a fascinating video of speculation on the long-standing question--not "what if?" but "when."

Alien Lore No. 201 - Was JFK killed because of his interest in aliens?

By Jack Brummet, Alien Lore & Unexplained Phenomena Editor

thanks to Jeff Clinton for the news tip...

Was JFK assassinated because of his interest in aliens? [1] A recently released memo shows that The President asked to see UFO files 10 days before death.   This very scenario was a central part and key plot element of one of my favorite TV shows of all time, the great series Dark Skies by Bryce Zabel.  In Dark Skies, JFK was assassinated after demanding to see Majestic's files on the Roswell "incident."

A letter written by President Kennedy to the head of the CIA shows that the president demanded to be shown confidential documents a week before before his assassination.  The memo is one of two letters written by JFK asking for information about the paranormal on November 12, 1963.[2]  These letters have been released by the CIA for the first time.   Of course, the CIA may have its own reasons for this.  Many of the JFK conspiracy people have pointed a finger at the Central Intelligence Agency ever since the day he was assassinated.

Author William Lester said the CIA released the documents to him under a Freedom of Information Act request he made as he researched his new book 'A Celebration of Freedom: JFK and the New Frontier.'   Alien researchers say the latest documents add weight to earlier suggestions that JFK was shot to prevent him discovering the truth about UFOs, and an alien invasion that may have already been underway.

As a sidenote, after he became President, Bill Clinton asked his Assistant Attorney General, Webster Hubbell, to investigate two things. “One, who killed JFK? And two, are there UFOs?” Bryce Zabel writes on the website After Disclosure about Bill Clinton's request:  "Clinton may not have realized how closely the two questions may have been connected." [3]

Zabel also said "The Kennedy assassination is something like Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express. Everyone had a motive: the Mafia, the CIA, the Cubans, the Pentagon, the Soviets, and the Federal Reserve, for starters. Could that list also include Majestic Twelve, the name often ascribed to the powerful insiders who control the UFO secret?

"My answer to that question is, why not?

[1] As many JFK conspiracy theorists have pointed out--although they admittedly generally have their one pet theory--everyone had a motive.

[2] JFK researcher Professor Lawrence Merrick, author of an upcoming blockbuster book Killing the Messenger: The Death of JFK, writes that JFK planned to give a speech that began "Citizens of this Earth, we are not alone."  John F. Kennedy planned to inform the American public and the world at large that the U.S. government had made contact with aliens from deep space.

[3]  This is not new information.  One website wrote about a JFK-UFO link as early as 2003 (there are probably other earlier references in books and on the web).  Conspiracies That Parallax: JFK’s Assassination & UFO Alien Abductions

Alien Lore No. 190 - A new Wikileak that reveals a U.S. v. UFO war near Antarctica

By Jack Brummet
Unexplained phenomena and paranormal editor

Thanks to Jeff Clinton, who frequently unearths our news tip of the day, for spotting this one...

According the European Union Times online newspaper, WikiLeaks is about to reveal the details behind a heretofore secret US-UFO war in the southern ocean, near Antarctica.

The EU Times came into this information from a report that recently circulated in the Kremlin, and that was initially prepared for President Medvedev by the Russian Space Forces (VKS) 45th Division of Space Control.

The report claims that WikiLeaks will soon release a passel of secret US cables outlining how the U.S. has been at war against UFO’s based on or near the Continent of Antarctica, since around 2004.

The report describes how the United States went to its highest alert level on June 10, 2004 after a massive fleet of UFO’s “suddenly emerged” from the Southern Ocean and approached Guadalajara, Mexico, 1,000 miles from the American border.  Before breaching the U.S. border, the UFO armada “dimensionally returned” to their Southern Ocean base.

"DefCon" chart showing the current level of military readiness
of the United States as of today (12-27-2010)

The U.S. military and intelligence first got an extreme case of the willies July 11, 1991 (called 7/11) when during a solar eclipse when UFOs appeared "by the hundreds" over much of Mexico.  The report also claims that millions of Mexicans watched the flyover on television, but the feed was suppressed in the U.S.
Since 2004, this report claims, fleets of Southern Ocean UFO’s have periodically emerged from their bases.  The most recent sightings happened this month, over Chile.

Two weeks ago, the report says, a cruise ship with 160 people on board, was nearly capsized when hit by waves generated by UFO’s emerging from the Southern Ocean.  A ship recently sank in the waves, and only 20 of its 42 member crew survived.

You may recall the recent airspace closures over New York City (October 13th) where thousands of people witnessed UFO flyovers.  Some people are claiming these UFOs are from the same southern ocean fleet. . .

I guess we need to hang loose and see just what WikiLeaks reveals. . .maybe after Julian Assange clears up his messy legal situation(s).

Alien Lore No. 165 - UFO Hovers Over The Kremlin

[Thanks to Jeff Clinton for suggesting this story]

The hottest video on the Russian YouTube site is film of an alleged UFO hovering over the Kremlin. Some say the triangular craft could be up to a mile in length. As you see in the video clips below, it has been seen in both daylight, and at night.

Russia has become a hotbed in recent years of UFO news, UFO records and investigations made public, and indeed. . .numerous purported alien craft sightings. . .

The video clips, probably shot from a passing car, have gone viral, particularly in the former Soviet Union.

Nick Pope, who has worked on MoD's UFO Desk [ed's note: MoD is the British Ministry of Defense] for three years, called it "one of the most extraordinary UFO clips I've ever seen."\
He said: "At first I thought this was a reflection, but it appears to move behind a power line, ruling out this theory."

Web theorists suggested an air balloon or stunt, but a spokesman for aerospace experts Jane's News said: "We have no idea what it is."

Alien Lore No. 139 - Tomorrow the Greys reveal themselves

Thanks, as always to Jeff Clinton for finding this nugget on the internets.

The Psychic, Blossom Goodchild, says she has received a channeled transmission from the Galactic Federation of Light.

The Federation will reveal themselves tomorrow, October 14th, 2008, by revealing their 2000 mile wide vessel. The spaceship will remain visible for 3 earth days.

The good news, according to Blossom, is they come in peace and love. . .like our old pal Klaatu from The Day The Earth Stood Still. Check our Blossom's message in the YouTube video, above.

Let All This Is That know if you see the vessel tomorrow!

Dark Skies/Alien Lore motherlode

Right up there with The Sopranos, Hill Street Blues, Deadwood, and a handful of other shoes...is Dark Skies. In 1996-97, Dark Skies, one of my all-time favorite television shows, aired. The show detailed the Greylien "history" that has accumulated (like tartar) over the years. Unlike other shows, Dark Skies established an elaborate mythology and framework for the grey lore, built through research of the voluminous outpouring of writing and reporting on alien-related topics.

Bryce Zabel developed a five year plan for the show, ranging from the early 60's to the millennium, all grounded in historical events. Each episode details the impact of The Hive on historical events. Harry Truman, The Beatles, Ed Sullivan, Jack Ruby, William Paley, Hubert Humphrey, JFK, Bobby Kennedy (in a recurring role), Timothy Leary, Jim Morrison, Jerry Rubin, Carl Sagan, and others all appear on the program. The "lookalike" actors are outrageously over the top and campy...which adds a note of bent humor to the proceedings. The Greys, it seems, are merely hosts for the real aliens, called the Hive. The Hive is far more dangerous and insidious than the Greys. The Greys, in fact, are a race not particularly warlike until they are taken over by The Hive.

The Hive in the form of The Greys has stealthily infested America, and the world. The awful truth is kept from the American people by Captain Frank Bach, the leader of a super-secret government organization called Majestic-12. John Loengard and Kim Sayers are on the run from the alien Hive and from the Government. Their travels lead them all around the country as they learn more about the massive infestation of The Hive, and Majestic's efforts to control it at any cost.

It's never clear in the show whether the cure is worse than the illness. Dark Skies seamlessly put together science fiction, UFOlogy, and past political events and social movements that took place during the 50's and late 60's. Unlike the X Files, Dark Skies was a one trick pony--it was about aliens, and UFOs, and nothing else. They cancelled the show just as it was getting traction. You can get a bootleg copy of the series. I did just that, and I enjoyed the show even more the second time around. By the way, Sony--it's time to release the DVDs!

Just the titles of their one season tell you much.

Alien Lore No. 128 - The Vatican Says Aliens Are God's Children Too

According to an Associated Press article yesterday, datelined from The Vatican, "The Vatican's chief astronomer says that believing in aliens does not contradict faith in God."

The Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory, says the vastness of the universe means it is possible there may be other forms of life outside Earth--even intelligent ones.

In an interview published Tuesday by Vatican's L'Osservatore Romano, Funes says that such a notion "doesn't contradict our faith" because aliens would still be God's creatures.

The astronomer said that ruling out the possibility of aliens would be like "putting limits" on God's creative freedom.

Thanks to Jeff Clinton for the tip on this fine article...
