Poem: Jack Kerouac, Meet John Barleycorn

Jack comes down with The Willies,
Dreaming of the western terrain,
From moss-humped cedar branches

To the stilled hacking of crows
And rainchecked dove's cooroo.
The falling sunlight tangles

In the shadows of Oregon grape and salal,
Jack prays for a sober tomorrow
And the forest snores like an earthworm.
